Remote Proctoring

About the project

The 5G Remote Proctoring solution allows remote support from specialists and expert doctors who interact with the doctor in the operating room on 3D holographic virtual models in a fluid and very high definition manner. The specific medical images of a patient are transformed into precise and detailed 3D models that can be viewed as holograms in Mixed Reality by the medical team through the use of viewers, to support both the preparation and execution phases of a surgical operation. Furthermore, artificial intelligence algorithms installed on Vodafone Edge Cloud allow the medical device to be identified and visualized with real-time tracking within the 3D holographic model during the implant procedure.
The solution was developed and tested within the Vodafone Action for 5G program and has been launched commercially on the market.

Artiness

We are proud to have contributed concretely to the development and application of such an innovation. This project is further testimony to San Raffaele's vocation not only for care and research but also for innovation and technological transfer with the aim of anticipating tomorrow's therapeutic and technological solutions for our patients today

Dr. Paolo Denti, PI and heart surgeon at the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele

The pilot

Vodafone Italia and IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital in Milan conducted a clinical trial for percutaneous mitral valve repair using the 5G Remote Proctoring solution. The trial, conducted in the Cardiac Surgery Unit of the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital, saw Dr. Paolo Denti in the role of Principal Investigator (PI) of the study. During the execution of the clinical trial at San Raffaele, the remote proctoring system was available to the first operator in the operating room and to the proctor, the medical device specialist, remotely.

Artiness

Innovative startup founded in 2018 by researchers and professors of the Department of Bioengineering of the Polytechnic of Milan, Artiness brings Mixed Reality directly to support medical personnel with a particular focus in the sector of cardiovascular imaging and cardiac pathology modeling.
